Martin is a teacher at Fukuoka School of Music and a visiting lecturer. He also works as designer, completing commissions for a range of clients including Tate, the Barbican Centre and the BBC.

As an artist Martin's practice centers on sound and music, especially field recording and improvised composition, but extends into the visual through score writing and print making. Recent projects have been released through The Sonic Art Research Unit and Routledge.

He lives and works in Japan.
